•  Polyphenol-rich food intake was associated with lower tender points (coffee and pear) and better quality of life (red fruits and dark chocolate) in women with fibromyalgia;

• There was no difference between the groups for salivary glutathione levels and no correlation between the intake of antioxidant micronutrients and pain or quality of life among women with fibromyalgia;

• Number of tender points, pain threshold and quality of life in the fibromyalgia group have (unsurprisingly) been worse;

• Vegetable juice intake was more common in women with fibromyalgia and red wine and beer consumption was more common in healthy women;

• In healthy women the average intake of antioxidant vitamins as well as selenium was higher.
